Postpartum Back Pain - Postpartum Abdominal Pain

Postpartum back pain is typically experienced by women who just gave birth. It happens when the abdominal muscles are weakened which lead for woman to use the muscles she does not usually use just to support the weight of her body.

A long and difficult labour , wrong posture when breastfeeding your baby, and the fatigue and pressure that accompanies in taking care of your new born child can also greatly affect and may attribute to aching back.

This is also because when a woman is pregnant, her placenta secretes hormone that causes for the ligaments in her back to lax.

It is normal to experience postpartum back pain especially for those who have previous history of the said condition, or if you are overweight you are more prone to it.

The pain is expected to last at least a few months after giving birth or until the abdominal muscles have become fully recovered from being stretched.

To reduce the pain to a tolerable level, one of the easiest and best ways to do is to take walks. This will not hurt you even if you have undergone the C-section, and you can do this more or less instantly after giving birth.

Do not put too much strain on your back when feeding your baby; instead of lowering or leaning your neck so the baby can reach your breast, use pillows to help you position yourself appropriately when feeding the baby.

Getting a nice treat of massage, taking warm shower, and wrapping hot pad around the affected part can greatly help ease the pain.
